Self Awareness
















Self Awareness is the cornerstone of effective personal development and change. Contained in this 50 page collection are 17 exercises with 14 accompanying video tutorials. There is plenty here to cover an entire range of issues helping your client center on their own role in identifying issues and strategies toward success. 1. Using the Development Wheels
The Development Wheels are one of the more accessible diagnostics available to the Mentor. User friendly the wheels allow for the discovery of where the youth imagines himself now and in the future on a range of relevant topics.



2. Self Talk
Self Talk includes Self Image, "the accumulation of all the attitudes and opinions I have perceived about myself which forms a picture in my mind about myself". It presents some good early work in the self awareness path.



3. Affirmations
I will do well on this module by paying particularly close attention to the information. See it's not that hard. The module presents the four rules; write in the present, don't worry about 'how', make them very personal, and use positive specific language. Affirmations are a practice that can be incorporated into many other tasks and actions taken during the day.



4. Resilience
Resilience is the process of adapting to adversity, or 'bouncing back', if you will. The module encourages the use of role models, skill building and staying flexible as preemptive strategies.

 



5. Comfort Zones

Comfort Zones are the living, work, and social environments we have become accustomed to. The power of this comfort is that it helps limit our beliefs about what we can achieve. Becoming aware of our own zones and building strategies to move beyond them are critical growth skills.




6. Making and Refusing Requests
How we ask for things and how we behave when turning down a request are important social skills particularly in the workplace. This module presents a simple 5 step process to make sure that the transaction goes smoothly.




7. Feedback Skills

A quick tutorial on the ramifications of feedback and what to consider in delivering it successfully. Particularly important are the verbal and non verbal cues we offer when responding to someone. The module also covers the importance of asking good questions while seeking clarification.

8. Time Line

"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you imagined". A perfect quote to start the tutorial. Time lines are useful from an historical perspective but also become integral as we plan the specific milestones in our goal setting process.




9. Change Cycle Part 1 - Imposed ChangePart 2 - Planned Change The feeling of being forced in a situation we did not plan can leave us with many different emotions. Understanding the 5 stages of change can help one understand better the natural state of those emotions and therefore to see one's progress as they move through the stages. Planned Change presents the 3 steps necessary for success; understand the gap between what you have and what you want, plan your path, and take action.



10. HABE - Habits Attitudes Beliefs Expectations
Our habits, attitudes, beliefs, and expectation are powerful influences in how we behave (and why). Habits are learned behaviors or thought patterns and can be change. However, practice does not necessarily make perfect - you must practice the right thing in the right way for positive change to occur.


11. Happiness Grid
This tutorial presents seven tips on the road to happiness beginning with understanding what makes you happy and developing the confidence to know that you deserve to be happy.




12. Have to Want to
This brief tutorial underscores the power of choices and consequences and how we deal with what has happened.




13. Values Clarification
The values concept of team, business, and community is reviewed briefly.



14. Performance Contract

The Performance Contract is work focused but the principals can be carried to any environment. Defining the behavior and establishing Key Results are important components as are measurements.
